Triple Redundant Autopilots

Three complete autopilots, advanced voting logic, flies helicopter, multirotor, transitioning and fixed-wing vehicles.

Triple redundancy (3X) provides autopilot technology with the reliability needed to safely execute sensitive flight missions and transport valuable payloads. MicroPilot’s triple-redundant autopilots comprise three complete autopilots, including all sensors. If any one of the three systems fails, the remaining two take over, providing double redundancy. If one of the other two systems should fail, the third takes over. MicroPilot’s triple redundant autopilots are highly tolerant of autopilot hardware failures.

Although triple-redundant technology is established in the aviation industry, triple-redundant autopilots are uncommon in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). MicroPilot, the leading UAV autopilot manufacturer, is setting the benchmark for triple redundant UAV autopilots. MicroPilot, based in Canada, has been designing autopilots for fixed-wing, transitioning, multirotor and helicopter UAVs since 1994. In 2006, MicroPilot started designing triple-redundancy autopilots for helicopter and fixed-wing UAVs. Later versions added support for multirotor and transitioning vehicles.

MicroPilot’s triple-redundant autopilots also include logic to synchronize settings, feedback loops and trim positions to ensure all autopilots are in a consistent state, and, should an autopilot switch be required, ensure a smooth transition without sudden jumps in control positions.

MP21283X

The MP21283X is MicroPilot’s most sophisticated autopilot. The MP21283X is designed for flight missions with high-value payloads and flights over sensitive areas.

This autopilot solution contains three of MicroPilot’s premier MP2128HELI2 autopilots, and is loaded with 11 serial ports, 8 redundant high current drivers and power supplies, and 16 independently-generated servo signals. The MP21283X sets new reliability standards, better guarantying those critical flights over sensitive regions and geographical areas that offer little hope for recovering lost vehicles.

MP21286X

The MP21286X is MicroPilot’s most sophisticated autopilot. The MP21286X is designed for flight missions with high-value payloads and flights over sensitive areas.
