MicroPilot Introduces Isolated RPM and Thermocouple Conditioning Board

October 28, 2026
RPM Thermocouple Signal Conditioner

STONY MOUNTAIN, Manitoba – MicroPilot introduces its RPM Thermocouple Signal Conditioner, supporting two RPM sensors and three K-type thermocouples. Optical isolation separates the sensor circuitry from the avionics.

Temperature and rotational-speed measurements place different demands on the electronics receiving them. A thermocouple produces a small voltage related to the temperature difference between its junctions. Rotational-speed sensors can produce pulses or frequency signals that must be interfaced to the receiving electronics. Bringing both measurements into an engine-monitoring system requires attention to these distinct signal characteristics.

Thermocouple wiring is particularly sensitive to its electrical surroundings. Sensor leads can pick up interference along their length, introducing unwanted signals before the measurement reaches the electronics. Because the useful thermocouple signal is small, the quality of the signal path is an important part of the measurement system.

For rotational-speed sensing, the interface must accommodate the signal produced by the selected sensor. In both cases, signal conditioning and electrical isolation address different parts of the integration task: preparing the sensor signal for the receiving system and managing the electrical connection between circuits.

MicroPilot brings engine-speed and temperature signal conditioning together in a single accessory. The board features high-reliability connectors, conformal coating/underfill, environmental stress screening and IPC Class 3.

Aircraft manufacturers can contact MicroPilot to discuss their RPM sensors, thermocouple arrangement and intended avionics integration.
