MicroPilot Now Integrates with Mathworks Products

MicroPilot's XTENDERsimulink and XTENDERsimulink coder allow MicroPilot's existing testing and simulation products to run within the aviation industries' most popular scientific computing platform - Mathworks Matlab and Simulink.

July 15, 2012 - Stony Mountain, Manitoba, Canada - MicroPilot, leader in autopilot solutions for miniature unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), now provides two new solutions for UAV systems design. XTENDERsimulink and XTENDERsimulink coder allow UAV system designers to integrate MicroPilot's simulator products with Mathworks' modeling solutions. A welcomed match-up, considering Mathworks' Matlab and Simulink stand as the aviation industry's most popular scientific computing platform.

With XTENDERsimulink, designers can insert MicroPilot's software-in-the-loop UAV autopilot simulator as a block within Mathworks Simulink's model editor. Since Simulink facilitates multidomain simulation and Model-Based Design for embedded systems, XTENDERsimulink aids developers to design, simulate, implement, and test a variety of UAV systems and autopilot extensions. These systems include communications, controls, signal processing, video processing, and image processing. XTENDERsimulink also makes it possible to access MicroPilot autopilot telemetry data and internal state fields from within Simulink. Designers can also add, delete, and move waypoints, as well as change flight modes, adjust state variables, and reset configuration parameters and gains from within a Simulink block diagram.

“Our other new design tool, XTENDERsimulink coder, makes it possible for designers to run complete implementations of MicroPilot's Ground Station to Autopilot communication protocol under Mathworks Simulink Coder,” says Howard Loewen, MicroPilot President. Moreover, XTENDERsimulink coder can be compiled to run on any target supported by Simulink Coder. Since Simulink Coder is used for hardware-in-the-loop testing of UAV's, XTENDERsimulink coder allows designers to develop and test complex real-time embedded systems.

XTENDERsimulink coder also aids in simulation acceleration and rapid prototyping. Similar to XTENDERsimulink, designers can add, delete, and move waypoints with XTENDERsimulink coder, as well as access telemetry data, update internal state fields, modify configuration parameters and feedback gains in real-time. Additionally, XTENDERsimulink coder's real-time, multi-threaded implementation allows multiple requests simultaneously.
